Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said he traded reliever Aaron Heilman to Arizona because of money.
Truth is, he traded the guy because he found a sucker for a reliever who had an opponents' batting average of .310 with runners in scoring position.
Hendry's lucky that Tom Ricketts didn't fire him immediately based on the Bradley disaster alone, so he maybe he's trying to impress the boss by making a move that cuts salary.

McLaren has worked on Lou Piniella's staff for 15 seasons, and also enjoyed stewardships under Mike Hargrove, Cito Gaston, Jimy Williams and Joe Morgan.
He has experienced five post-seasons, including four division titles (Toronto in 1989, Seattle '95, '97, 2001).
McLaren spent the 2009 campaign as a Rays special assignment scout.

The skipper who led the Reds to their last World Series will be at Redsfest.
Current Cubs manager Lou Piniella, who helmed the 1990 championship team was confirmed as an attendee on Wednesday and he will be on hand on opening night, Friday, Dec. 4.
Piniella will be introduced on the main stage with members of his old team on the Duke Energy Center main stage at 6:30 p.m. ET.

The Nationals will soon announce that John McLaren will be Jim Riggleman's bench coach and they have retained Rick Eckstein, Pat Listach and Steve McCatty as the hitting coach, third-base coach and pitching coach, respectively, according to a baseball source.
McLaren is best known for managing the Mariners for parts of the 2007 and '08 seasons.
Riggleman was his bench coach in '08.

Pitcher Randy Wells may have been the biggest surprise of 2009, winning 12 games, but it wasn't enough to give the Cubs their second straight National League Rookie of the Year.
Wells, who totaled 165 1/3 innings in 2009, finished sixth in the balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
